The International Highrise Award is presented every two years in Frankfurt. The nominees are special high-rise buildings that are over 100 meters high and have been completed in the last two years. The German Architecture Museum selected the nominated buildings from more than 1000 new high-rise buildings worldwide. Only four of them are located in Europe. Aspects such as sustainability, exterior design and interior spatial qualities, as well as urban planning quality are taken into account in the evaluation. Other criteria are innovative construction technology and economic efficiency. With the recently completed ONE and the Senckbergquarter, two Frankfurt high-rises are even nominated in 2022.

The high-rise ONE stands near the trade fair grounds at the entrance to the Europaviertel. It was designed by Meurer Architektur und Stadtplanung. It was completed in July 2022 and is now ready for occupancy. It was the first high-rise in Central Europe to be awarded the highest category Platinum Smartscore certificate by Wiredscore.

The upper floors of ONE are intended for office use. The lower floors will be used by NH Hotel Group as a hotel with a restaurant and conference area. The first guests will be able to visit the hotel starting in August. A shared lobby, coworking areas and a skybar with a surrounding terrace at a height of 185 meters complement the mixed use of the building and thus open it up to the public.

Senckenbergquartier is a high-rise project on the site of the former AfE tower and was designed by cyrus moser architects.

The quarter includes the One Forty West tower with a total of 41 upper floors, housing both apartments and a 4-star hotel. The Meliá brand hotel is located in the lower high-rise section up to the 23rd floor. The Senckenberg Tower is the second high-rise building in the quarter and has been awarded the BREEAM Excellent sustainability certificate. Among others, the major French bank BNP Paribas has its German headquarters here. The first floor is home to a restaurant. In addition to the two high-rise buildings, the quarter also includes 21 West, a daycare center and an underground parking.

Once again this year, the jury is made up of internationally renowned architects, engineers or architecture critics as well as representatives of DekaBank, the City of Frankfurt am Main and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum. The five finalists will be announced in the fall, and the winning project will be announced at a festive awards ceremony in Frankfurt’s Paulskirche on November 8, 2022. This will be followed by both an exhibition at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum and a book publication.
