The Sparda Bank Tower and the new Messeplatz entrance will be built on the trade fair grounds on Europa-Allee by 2025. The entrance is located at the future subway stop of the new U5 in the Europaviertel. This means that the trade fair center can be optimally reached by all guests from any direction in the shortest possible time. A connection to the Via Mobile is also planned. This is the covered and glazed transport system with moving walkways as well as escalators that connects the halls with each other. With the new section, the Via Mobile will then be 1.7 kilometers long in total. After the implementation of the new trade fair entrance and the connection, the last milestone of the modernization of the trade fair grounds, which has been ongoing since the 1980s, will be completed.
A total of three planning offices submitted their proposals: MAA Moser Assozierte Architekten and BillyBeyeScheid Architekten Partnerschaft mbH from Frankfurt, as well as kadawittfeldarchitektur from Aachen. A panel of Messe Frankfurt experts ultimately decided in favor of MAA Moser‘s design. Messe Frankfurt‘s managing director, Uwe Behm, justified the choice with the “efficiency in construction and aesthetics” of the design.
Once completed, the new trade show entrance will be the shortest connection to Hall 12. In total, the section will be 120 meters long, approximately 8 meters wide and just under 7 meters high. The bridge will be built with two concrete column structures. The multifunctional support structures will provide a pleasant atmosphere for trade show visitors with seating and greenery. In addition, the panoramic windows in the facade will create different perspectives of the Frankfurt skyline. Furthermore, there will be visual connections to the Messeturm or the Torhaus, among others, to prevent a tunnel effect.
