EXPO REAL - Leading Exhibition for the European Real Estate Industry
EXPO REAL is the largest exposition for real estate and investments in Europe, and along with MIPIM in Cannes, is one of the leading real estate trade fairs. It has been held annually at the beginning of October on the Munich trade fair grounds by Messe München GmbH since 1998.
EXPO REAL 2019 covered an area of 72,250 square meters. There were 46,747 participants from 76 countries on site, including 22,065 trade visitors and 24,682 representatives from 2,189 exhibiting companies.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, EXPO REAL was planned in a slimmed-down format for October 2020, with a presence at the Munich exhibition center and a digital section as well. This hybrid format was named EXPO REAL Hybrid Summit and would have taken place on October 14-15, 2020. EXPO REAL 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 crisis. The next real estate fair is to take place in 2021.
The FrankfurtRheinMain Metropolitan Region is regularly represented at EXPO REAL with a joint stand organized by the Frankfurt Economic Development Corporation.
Trade Fair Concept
According to the exhibition company, the show areas of EXPO REAL represent the “entire value chain of the real estate industry” including project development, consulting, financing and implementation, operation, and investment.
The conference program is thematically oriented towards politics and business with a focus on the real estate industry. The organizers see EXPO REAL as a cross-border networking platform to initiate business, to present and initiate projects, and to make new contacts. Most EXPO REAL participants come from Europe. This focus is reflected in the so-called country pavilions, which bundle exhibitors with the same geographical background in a common exhibition area.
There will also be thematic joint stands for overarching asset classes such as the “LogRealCampus” for logistics properties and the “World of Hospitality” for hotel properties. In 2016, the “Grand Plaza” opened a networking area for companies in retail and retail real estate. This is where “exhibitors from the food, drugstore, textile, and system catering sectors meet.
In 2017 and 2018 EXPO REAL hosted the Real Estate Innovation Network (REIN), which sees itself as the “leading European platform for exchange between technology start-ups, established companies, industry experts, and investors against the background of the ongoing digital transformation of the real estate industry”. The aim is to provide an overview of technology trends for all areas in the real estate industry’s value chain. A total of 75 PropTech companies and start-ups were represented at REIN 2018.
FrankfurtRheinMain Metropolitan Region at Expo Real
On behalf of the City of Frankfurt, the Frankfurt Economic Development Corporation (in German: Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt GmbH) organizes a joint booth every year where partners present themselves. Exhibitors usually also include well-known project developers such as Tishman Speyer (MesseTurm, TaunusTurm, OpernTurm, OmniTurm, etc.) as well as Gross und Partner (FOUR Frankfurt, The Spin, ONE FORTY WEST, NINTY NINE WEST, Gateway Gardens, etc.).
Traditionally, the “FrankfurtRheinMain meets Expo Real – Evening of the Metropolitan Region” takes place on the first day of the fair from 7:00 pm, and gives cities and partners a chance to network with live music and regional culinary specialties.
