The Timber Pioneer will be the first office building in Frankfurt to be built using the timber hybrid construction method by 2023. The eight-story building in the Europaviertel is being developed by UBM and PAULUS, and the plans were penned by the architectural firm Eike Becker. Austrian world market leader WIEHAG will play a major role as the timber construction partner. The Timber Pioneer is being built using a modular construction method. This means that important components of the building are already industrially prefabricated and only need to be assembled on the construction site. In total, the Timber Pioneer will comprise approximately 14,000 square meters of office space and 1,000 square meters of retail and restaurant space. Approx. 1,500 cubic meters of spruce wood will be processed, and the building shell is to be realized completely CO2 neutral.
Intensive greening of the inner courtyard and roof terrace is planned for the Timber Pioneer, which is expected to have a positive effect on the microclimate. An improved indoor climate is also expected in the interiors due to the regulating effect of the material wood. The Timber Pioneer construction site is located directly next to the new F.A.Z. Tower in Frankfurt’s Europaallee.
A conventional hotel building was originally planned for the site. In the wake of the Corona pandemic, UBM had decided to reschedule all hotel projects that had not yet gone into construction.
