In the European District an office building named DB Tower was constructed for Deutsche Bahn AG (the German national railway operator). The 66 meter high DB Tower has 30,400 square meters of rental space. The location is centrally located on the north side of Europa-Allee and borders on the southern exhibition grounds. Construction work started in the 3rd quarter of 2018 and should be completed by autumn 2020. The building is constructed from prefabricated concrete elements, which will enable a fast construction time. The architecture was designed by schmidtploecker planungsgesellschaft.
In future, Deutsche Bahn AG will not only be using the DB Tower high-rise on construction site 42c and the adjacent DB Brick office building (formerly The Brick). DB Brick has a rental area of 23,400 square metres and the topping-out ceremony for the building was celebrated in June 2019. Deutsche Bahn is using a total of 53,800 square meters of rental space at the site. Deutsche Bahn is moving to the new location with around 3,000 employees from various business segments.
The project is Aurelis Real Estate‘s largest project development to date. Aurelis Real Estate used to be a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. Aurelis and Deutsche Bahn signed a 20-year lease for the office space in the European Quarter in October 2017.
In autumn 2018, Warburg-HIH Invest Real Estate GmbH acquired the two office buildings as part of a forward deal.
Completion and handover to Deutsche Bahn took place in October 2020.
