The AXIS residential tower is located at the western end of Frankfurt’s European District and has a height of 60 meters (197 feet). The AXIS building complex is named after the special visual axes that the building, with its organic-looking façade stepped to the south, offers its residents between the Frankfurt skyline, the Taunus hills, the Odenwald forest and the European District. The building ensemble consisting of a residential tower and AXIS Townhouses contain 153 residential units. 8 townhouses, which are connected to the residential tower via an open atrium garden with green and water areas, are unique for inner-city living in Frankfurt.

The residential building made of white natural stone was planned by the renowned Frankfurt architects Meixner, Schlüter, Wendt. AXIS is a solitaire and yet relates to the environment, because it steps backwards. On Europaallee to the north, the 19-storey tower approaches the street space in full. At the rear towards the south it becomes lower and takes up the height of the surrounding buildings. The organic-looking south facade is a real architectural highlight with irregularly shaped balconies and loggias from which the residents of the apartments, terrace apartments and high flats can enjoy the unique panorama.

But AXIS Frankfurt also has a lot to offer inside. The flexible floor plans allow individually plannable apartment layouts. An underground car park with king-size parking spaces and, on request, an e-car filling station are further special features of the interior. The blinds are located between the windows so that they are protected from strong winds.

In the representative entrance hall, the residents and their guests are greeted by a concierge. This is – in the tradition of American apartment houses – the “good soul of the house”. He registers guests, takes care of theater and cinema tickets, looks after craftsmen when the residents are not at home, manages apartment keys and takes care of the acceptance of parcels and the watering and cleaning service when they are absent.

The waste water heat exchanger system in AXIS draws the heating energy from the energy contained in the waste water in an ecologically and economically sensible way. With a heating output of 440 kW and a cooling output of 640 kW, the heat pump delivers 100% of the energy that is required for heating and cooling in the apartments in AXIS. The use of the world’s largest waste water heat exchanger system, for which around 60 meters of heat exchangers were laid in the sewer, is part of the ambitious environmental concept of the AXIS ensemble and Wilma Wohnen Süd GmbH. Numerous other measures, such as a ventilation system with heat recovery, efficient lighting using LEDs, energy-returning elevators and very good insulation, rainwater use for plant irrigation and the water areas in the inner courtyard round off the environmental concept.

The residential tower, completed in 2016, was one of the first residential towers in Frankfurt to be built in decades. AXIS Frankfurt symbolizes a new generation of high-rise apartment buildings. Head of Planning Olaf Cunitz expressed himself in a similar direction during the topping-out ceremony in April 2015: “Frankfurt is on the way to becoming the European capital of residential high-rise buildings and with this project we have taken another step”.

On the opposite street side of the AXIS Tower lies another residential building: Westside Tower. Also, just a few hundreds meters away the High-Rise Am Römerhof is planned in the future.
